Prescription Opiate Use: Stress and Cues (PI: Dr. Sudie Back)
The Prescription Opiate Use study was an experimental research study funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse designed to examine the role of stressors in individuals' responses to cues surrounding prescription opiate use. As a research assistant, my project tasks included:
- Database management and data entry
- Cleaning, organizing, and maintaining heart rate and skin conductance data
- Creating scoring syntax for self-report scales
- Collecting data from participants in four separate study days (baseline visit, experimental study day, one week follow-up visit, and one month follow-up visit)
- Conducting statistical analyses

- Supervision of the study's Research Assistant and volunteers
- Recruitment, screening, and collecting data from participants in four separate study days (baseline visit, experimental study day, one week follow-up visit, and one month follow-up visit)
- Updating the IRB regulatory binder
- Ensuring the confidentiality of participants' data
- Database creation, management, and data entry
- Conducting statistical analyses
Research Assistant, Radford University (2007-2009)
Investigation of Employment Discrimination by Gender and Parental Status (PI: Dr. Hilary Lips)
At Radford University, my advisor and I conducted an experimental research study designed to examine employment discrimination by gender and parental status. Volunteer college students were asked to read a job applicant's materials and make judgments/hiring decisions about the applicant. As a research assistant, my tasks included:
- Development and implementation of research hypotheses
- Literature reviews
- Recruitment and data collection from over 300 participants
- Management of data entry
- Conducting statistical analyses
